Weather Forecasting

Man has been attempting to predict what the next day’s weather would be like for thousands of years.  The original science was based on simple observations of the sky and the behaviour of plants and animals.

The invention of the thermometer, barometer and anemometer moved the science on considerably but the biggest advances occurred during World War II. Greater resources were allocated and weather balloons and radar were used for the first time making more accurate forecasts possible.

The meteorologists of today have the use of computers and weather satellites to aid them in their work but the weather for more than a day or two ahead is still impossible to forecast with 100% accuracy.
